hi again!
You probably already know a little about me
As a chronically caffeinated storyteller, oldest daughter, twin. But let’s dive into the rest of my tragic backstory or villainous origin story or whatever we want to call this.
I spent thirteen years touring the country and Eastern Europe as a professional musician with my family, The Family Sowell. I learned so much through these experiences growing up about different cultures, people, stories, more grit than glamour, even when it looked shiny from the outside.
Then, my reality shattered.
My dad died. My music career ended. And somewhere in the middle of discovering what I actually believed about God and myself, stories and the new community I’d stumbled upon kept me semi sane.
That's the short version of how a touring musician became a storyteller who is still figuring out what she wants to say.
No one should ever have to grieve alone.
I write the way I do with grief complicating everything, because most of what's out there asks you to choose depth or hope, darkness or light, a fast-paced plot or characters who actually feel real. And I don't think you should have to choose.
I've experienced a lot of loss in my life. And I always needed a story I could walk through hell with, especially when life began to feel too heavy to carry anymore.
So that's what I’m learning to write.
Stories with the gritty, hard-won hope of my favorite dystopian, fantasy, and sci-fi books but set in the very real, tangible present.
Stories to face the darkness in our lives, fight it, and win, practicing courage to live again right where we are, because there’s no “other side” to grief. It becomes a part of you.
I'm a graduate of the Author Conservatory, mentored by people I’ve come to deeply respect in the publishing industry. I've taken trauma training as a volunteer for a safe house supporting teen girls recovering from trafficking and domestic violence. Touring both the US and abroad gave me a unique perspective on people, grief, and loss long before I ever put it into written words. Also, I'm a confident advocate for therapy and community, which is something I'm still actively growing in myself.
All of that is just to say… when I write about grief, wrestling with faith, or the messy work of growing up, I’m writing from personal experiences and life lessons.
I’m still very much honing my craft, so no debut novel on the shelves yet. But if you want to be the first to know when the time comes…
My anthology contribution, “Good Tidings & Twin Sisters,” is a heartwarming holiday story about twin sisters, growth, and finding beauty in life’s inevitable changes.
Adventuring Anyway is my Substack, for essays on grief, growth, and going on adventures anyway
Come say hey and follow along on IG! I read every comment and dm. (also please tell me your best dead dad joke; I’m collecting)
Marketing Is My Other Love Language
Storytelling isn't the only thing I think about constantly.
I've spent a decade in marketing, and these days I want to help founders and business owners find a brand voice that actually sounds like them. Think J.A.R.V.I.S as a brainstorming buddy, but a real person.
If that's something you need, or you know someone who does…
